order of the dragon
this was pretty much a cult for nobility in hungary in the middle ages. founded by the king of hungary and the holy roman emperor. also appeared in germany and italy. its a christian cult that required its members to fight those not christian, in particular the ottoman turks. the symbol they wore was a dragon in a circle with its tail in its mouth.
vlad the impaler
he was the prince of wallachia. his full name is Vlad Tepes. he ruled in the mid-1400’s. he resisted the expansion of the ottoman empire, and whomsoever got in his way paid in torture and death. he apparently inspired the story of dracula by bram stoker. he was born in transylvania. his father, Vlad Dracul, was born in the year of the dragon and joined the “order of the dragon”....
